Swatch · A World in Every Color

Watch the film first: the text below gives away the ending.

The idea

I wanted a watch film that didn't look like a watch film: something everyday, almost domestic, that seems to be heading somewhere else entirely. It started in a shop in New York, in front of a wall of Swatches. The colours were so loud they stopped reading as products and started reading as places. White became snow. Green became a field.

So I asked: what if every watch held a world the colour of its strap? Like the old science-fiction films where someone opens a fridge and finds a civilisation inside, or like everything that happens under a microscope that we never get to see.

Structure

A shadow moves through a world that feels familiar, and we don't know what it is. The mystery holds until the reveal: it was a watch all along, and the whole idea clicks at once.

Process

It was the last of the three specs, and the most direct. By then the idea was so clear that I wrote it as a single 30-second continuous shot in Seedance 2.5, the first version of the model that could hold that long. It held: the film is almost exactly that one take, with barely any editing. The work was in the writing, not the cutting.

Music & sound

The score started in Suno v6, but I rebuilt the orchestra: of the generated track I kept only a few harp effects and glissandi; the rest was re-orchestrated by hand. Ambiences built in Krotos Studio; props and spot effects designed by hand. Mix by me.

Tools

Seedance 2.5 · Suno v6 (re-orchestrated) · Krotos Studio · hand-made sound design and mix

Timeline

About two and a half days: one on the image (a couple of tests and the take was there), one on the music, which was the hardest part, and half a day on sound.
